Outdoor Living: Part 2
In part 1, we talked about popular outdoor lounge areas and kitchen setups.
Now, let’s talk about gardens and how to put the final touches on your outdoor living space to make it your own!
Gardens
Landscaping can grow (see what I did there?) to be difficult to manage.
But what if this type of garden was one that could cut down on your grocery bills?
Gardening has been around since the beginning of time, but growing for yourself is really booming in 2022 due to rising costs at the grocery store.
There are three primary methods of gardening: traditional, vertical, and hydroponics.
Traditional Gardening
What do you think about when you imagine a garden?
Soil in rows or garden beds, daily watering, weeding, the whole ordeal.
You can create gardening spaces as small or as large as you desire, if you want to feed your family or your whole town.
We recommend starting small and gradually adding over time. This way you don’t bite off more than you can chew.
Vertical Gardening
Think traditional gardening, but make it vertical.
If you’re limited on space, this is for you! Vertical gardening is great because it makes gardening available to people of all walks of life.
If you live in an apartment and have a small balcony, build your garden up, instead of out.
Maybe you don’t have an outdoor area at all, but still want to grow your own food.
Set up grow lights! Yes, you can 100% garden indoors!
Hydroponics
If you don’t know what hydroponics is, that’s okay, it’s still growing in popularity!
Hydroponics is similar to conventional gardening, except plants are grown in nutrient dense water instead of soil.
This is a more efficient method to grow your own food because you can grow large amounts in a smaller area.
Is hydroponics intimidating to you? Fret not. You can buy a ready-made set up with full instructions! Click here to see this cool setup.
And if the price tag makes your wallet wince, there are numerous ways to build your own hydroponics garden to cut down on cost. Check out Pinterest!
Adding Your Style
Rounding out the last element of the 2022 outdoor living trends, we’re talking about adding your personal style to your outdoor space.
Think of it like decorating the inside of your home in terms of lighting, rugs and special features.
Lighting
Set the ambiance of your space with feature lighting.
Our favorite way to light up a backyard oasis is with string lights! We don’t mean Christmas string lights, but patio lights that sparkle!
Don’t have a place to hang lights? Simple, sink posts inside large planters with concrete and soil.
That way, they’re portable if you wish to reconfigure anything, and you can dress the planters up with flowers so they’re not an eyesore!
Outdoor Rugs
Make your space feel cozy and welcoming with an outdoor rug.
Polypropylene rugs are the most popular and life-proof types of outdoor rugs, and rightfully so!
These rugs are easy to keep clean, stain resistant, AND they don’t fade in sunlight.
They’re also safe for various patio materials. Whether you have concrete, wood, or another material, you don’t have to worry about rotting or mildew.
Fire pits
Finish off your trending outdoor living space with a fire pit.
Imagine, summer nights around the fire, roasting hotdogs and making s’mores.
Find a fire pit that fits your needs, whether that be propane-powered (no wood required) or wood-burning.
You’ll find yourself making unforgettable memories around the fire before too long.
If you can’t tell, we’re passionate about getting outside and spending time with the ones you love!
